Best soup ever? If not, it's close! You have to try the award winning Seafood Chowder. It's literally a seafood meal in a bowl. Huge (and plentiful) scallops, clams and shrimp in a buttery chowder base. It is sooo good!
I have to admit I actually planned my trip to Maine based on this restaurant and an episode of Diners, Drive-In's and Dives! (I know... I'm weird).
I had to try the Lobster Pie and Cod Cakes after seeing Guy and the owner make them together on his show. Both are very good... so are the desserts!
Must stop on any trip to Maine. -

While the food was OK, it was not what I expected after all of the hoopla on TV.
The seafood chowder was very good, the lobster pie was good, and the fish cake was very good.
The service left a little to be desired. I couldn't help the feeling of being rushed (and there were empty tables), waiting for drink refills and overcrowding the table with plates (bringing the next before what you currently had was gone).
It's amazing how substandard service can leave such a bad taste in your mouth. -

Overpriced tourist trap.
We are visiting from out of town and came because the many high reviews.
We were initially told there would be a 30 minute wait. It ended up being almost an hour wait.
The food was fairly tasteless and bland. We got haddock sandwiches. Nothing I couldn't have made at home. More like a McDonald's fish fillet sandwich.
The side of cole slaw and tartar sauce were very bland and tasteless also.
And after waiting so long for a table, getting our orders in and receiving the food also took a very, very long time.
On the positive side, the servers were very friendly. And the blueberry pancakes others had ordered were HUGE and looked delicious.
We came, we saw, we ate. Most likely will not return on future visits to Wells. -

Today we had lunch here, a little later than anticipated because we used the Yelp GPS guidance system. The best thing I can say about it is that the detour it sent us on gave us a beautiful view of the ocean. Other than that, we will use Google or Apple maps in the future. Eventually we did arrive at our destination. I put in our name and was given one of those devices that lights up and vibrates when it's your turn. They have a long covered waiting area outside that provided ample seating, at least today, and I fell into a very pleasant conversation w/ a woman who had just driven in from Pennsylvania w/ her husband. Our device went off in 20 or 25 minutes and we were seated in a comfy booth.
I knew I wanted blueberry pancakes, an egg or two and sausage or bacon. When I told our server what I wanted, she suggested the 2's Are Wild, 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and toast, so that's what I ordered. Alan decided on the Jim Nantz, seafood chowder and a lobster roll served hot or cold. He chose cold. He had iced tea and water to drink, I had hot tea.
Alan's chowder arrived first and it was amazing, thin rather than thick, full of seafood and very little in the way of potatoes. He gave me tastes and then let me finish the broth. His lobster roll and my dish arrived about the same time. The pancakes were delicious, the eggs cooked perfectly over medium, the bacon tasty and not too much and the sausage links small and very flavorful. The toast was good but superfluous and I left most of it. I offered some to Alan but he preferred the pancakes so I gave him several bites, which he liked. It was a very satisfying meal and service was wonderful. -

An unexpected stop on our travels up to Acadia, this was a good halfway point. Stopped here around 1pm and there was a 20 minute wait for a table, so we passed the time in the gift shop next door. This place is very popular, no doubt due to Guy Fieri filming here. We got sandwiches to share-- the Captain Bligh and a fried fish sandwich. For sides we went with coleslaw (good) and cottage cheese (tiny portion) and an extra side of onion rings. Sandwiches were fine, nothing exciting. Our waitress was great-- when I mentioned I wanted to try the famous Maine blueberry chip ice cream but couldn't do a full dish, she offered a kiddie scoop-- perfect size!
Overall, an ok stop, but would try somewhere else next time thru!
